Anyone who knows me will tell you I am "animal crazy" (or maybe just plain crazy) but my favorite animal in the world are Giant Pandas. Zoo Atlanta has a new baby Panda and I love him already.

HEY!!! I though you loved me - I even wore this thing around my neck to impress you and increase your Cell Phone signal.

Mei Lan

As many of you know I am absolutely nuts about Giant Panda's. I arrived in Atlanta, almost ten years ago around the same time as Lun Lun and Yang Yang the Giant Panda's on load to Zoo Atlanta. That was about the time my fascination with Panda's began. They truly are amazing, beautiful smart animals who have more personality then most people I know.

On September 6, 2006 Lun Lun and Yang Yang became the proud parents of Mei Lan our beautiful baby Panda Cub. From the day Mei Lan was born we Giant Panda lovers have had the pleasure of seeing her grow via the Panda Cam at www.ZooAtlanta.com .

I am not sure if there are any proven scientific facts that Panda's have a healing effect on Humans. I can tell you that the last nine months of viewing Lun Lun and Mei Lan on the Panda Cam have been a much needed "calm in the storm" for me.

If you are looking for some entertainment between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm (Eastern) check out the Panda Cam. You will usually catch Lun Lun and Mei Lan playing. It is so fun to watch, you can see how much Lun Lun loves her cub and how curious and mischievous the cub is. I should note Panda Cam is only available Monday - Friday.

Those of you with kids make sure you include them but be warned watching these two is addicting to people of all ages.

Mei Lan is her name

I just realized I forgot to tell you the Baby Panda's name, it is (drum roll please) Mei Lan which is Chinese for Beautiful Atlanta Girl - kinda. Mei Lan can now walk all over the place and spends a great deal of her awake time annoying her Mom.

It is fun to watch, Mei Lan is not really annoying her Mom - just exploring. Lun Lun (her Mom) seems to really enjoy having a baby and it almost appears that she is trying to keep Mei Lan a baby for just a little while longer.

If you want to see some fun interaction between Mom and Baby check out the Panda Cam at www.ZooAtlanta.com around 3:00 pm Eastern. Its is far more interesting then anything you will see on TV.

Panda Baby Almost Has A Name

Well she have a name soon, the baby Panda cub will be 100 days old on December 15th. There is a list of 10 names that the public can vote for choosing a name. Names were submitted by Zoo Atlanta, local Atlanta TV Stations and the Atlanta Journal Constitution. I think the entire city of Atlanta is love with this baby Panda, she has capture our attention and our hearts. I read the Cub Updates at www.ZooAtlanta.com almost daily, one of her keepers refers to as "our beautiful baby girl" which is so appropriate.

The Obsession Continues

Atlanta's obsession with our beautiful baby girl Panda continues,. With that said time for another Baby Panda update. As of November 2, 2006 she is now 6.15 lbs and 19.3 inches long. Her teeth are about to break through and she is getting a little fiesty. Last week during her exam the baby lunged at a reporter from the AJC and then promptly fell asleep -- deciding "am I a fierce animal or a sweet little baby".

Speculation has been floating around about names, I have heard Bling Bling which is not my first choice. On the Panda Updates last weekend one of her handlers called her "their beautiful baby girl" so I think a name reflecting that is in order.

If you have a chance go to the Panda Cam at the Zoo Atlanta web site, watching Mom and Baby is spectular and probably something not many of us have had a chance to witness. Oh my obsession continues...

Baby Panda Update

The Baby now weights 4.9 lbs and is 17 inches long. The Mom, Lun Lun is starting to spend more time away from her baby, checkin on her from time to time. Not unusual according to the Zoo Atlanta website.

Panda Update

Can this Panda be any cuter? I know, people write me and ask how I can think this baby is cute ...well I do. Maybe its my new obsession (anyone who knows me will tell you I am slightly OCD).

Rick who I work with is slightly obessed with the Panda also. Last Friday We were talking about watching Panda Cam at ZooAtlanta.com The public cannot view the baby until its 100 days old. By the time the "real" public can see it I would guess the baby will be 150 days old. I am sure Zoo Officials and Mayor Franklin will get to see the baby way before Rick and I.

Hey Baby Panda, take it from me you will want to see me and Rick - we are much better looking then Mayor Franklin (just teasing Mayor Franklin you're hot).

Its a Girl!!!

9-year-old female giant panda Lun Lun (Loon Loon), and 8-year-old male giant panda Yang Yang (Yahng Yahng) successfully produced a cub. Delivery took place at 4:51 p.m. in a specially constructed birthing den in the Giant Panda Building at Zoo Atlanta.

Help Me!!! I am obsessed with this baby Panda, Oh my goodness can it be any cuter? The picture above was taken on September 25th, the baby is 19 days old. Naming of the baby will not take place until the cub is 100 days old.

Can you imagine if we had to wait 100 days for our name, there would be a world full of I need sleep's, Don't you ever stop crying's, I miss my hip's and wait till your Father get home's
